BBC Design Sprint
A design sprint on a BBC project, from first research to a prototype people could try. The result was Think Twice, an app and shopping plugin that helps young adults make more conscious decisions.
The need
Young adults want to shop more consciously, but many buy on impulse.
41% of Generation Z consumers are impulse buyers, followed by Millennials at 34% and Generation X at 32%.

Insight
Sorting the ways we could meet that need led to one focus: helping young adults aged 18 to 24 plan their money and save.

User personas
Tim, 19. Student with no job. Lives month to month, is unfamiliar with budgeting and tends to spend more at the beginning of the month.
Chloe, 22. Student with a part-time job. An impulsive spender who thinks she has extra money, and wants to save more.
Elise, 24. Recent graduate, employed. A compulsive saver who wants to save towards meaningful life experiences, but is easily affected by deals.
Event mapping and ideation
The aim: encourage conscious shopping with real-time guidance and rewards for considered decisions. Key words: interrupt, advise, interact.

Prototyping
We tested paper prototypes with people. Two insights: set a goal at the start of the app, to bring users back, and use live reactions instead of full text replies.

Solution
An app and shopping plugin that lets you ask your friends for advice, live, before you buy.
Key features: goal setting, questions that prompt reflection, and editing your cart based on feedback. Your close circle can react and comment in the moment.
